A Utah software engineer, known as DataRepublican, has uncovered evidence of a potential plot to undermine the US government. The alleged plot, involving former USAID officials and leftist organizations, aims to delegitimize the Trump administration and shift authority to Democratic governors.
According to DataRepublican, the plotters intend to use tactics employed in color revolutions overseas, such as escalating unrest and creating a legitimacy crisis. The goal is to create a situation where the federal government is seen as illegitimate, and Democratic governors can step in to take control.
DataRepublican has published audio recordings and videos that appear to show USAID alumna Danielle Reiff discussing a scenario where a provisional government comprising state governors would take over. Reiff also identifies three potential crisis scenarios, including an election meltdown, potential militarization, and an acute democratic crisis.
The alleged plotters seem to be influenced by the intellectual work of Erica Chenoweth, a professor at the Harvard Kennedy School, who has written extensively on color revolutions and mass movements. Chenoweth's work suggests that if a movement can mobilize 3.5% of a country's population, it can create significant political pressure for the incumbent to leave office.
Experts, including Mike Howell, president of the Oversight Project, have expressed concern about the alleged plot, stating that it is part of a larger effort to fundamentally overthrow the constitutional order in America.
