Australia Imposes Preliminary Tariffs on Chinese Windows and Doors

Australia Imposes Preliminary Tariffs on Chinese Windows and Doors
The Epoch Times

Australia moves to impose tariffs of up to 70% on Chinese window and door imports, citing dumping and subsidies. Importers must lodge security for the tariffs when clearing customs.

Australia has taken a step towards imposing significant tariffs on Chinese window and door imports. The Australian Trade Remedies Commission has found that Chinese exporters have been selling their products below market value, a practice known as dumping.

What happened

The commission's preliminary findings indicate that all Chinese exporters, except for Altop Facade, should face extra duties. The tariffs range from 5.3% to 70.4%, with some exporters also receiving subsidies from the Chinese authorities. Importers must now lodge these tariff amounts as security when the goods clear customs.

The investigation, which began in November 2025, was prompted by a complaint from window maker Ventora Group and the Australian Glass and Window Association. The commission's final recommendation is due by December 16, and the minister will then decide whether to impose duties and at what rates.

Aluminium supplier Capral has welcomed the findings, stating that the dumped and subsidised imports have caused financial harm to Australian window and door manufacturers. However, Master Builders Australia has opposed the investigation, arguing that new charges would increase the cost of homes during a housing crisis.
