What happened
Kai Labban, a baby who became a symbol of hope after surviving a terrorist attack on his home in Kibbutz Nirim, has returned to the Israeli kibbutz with his family. The attack occurred on October 7, 2023, when Kai was just 10 days old. Hamas terrorists stormed the kibbutz, setting homes and cars on fire, and shooting at civilians. Kai's parents, Aimee and Uriel Labban, took shelter in a safe room with their newborn son, where they stayed for nine hours until they were rescued by Israel Defense Forces troops.
Aimee Labban shared a photo of Kai in the safe room, which became an international symbol of hope and survival. The family received support from around the world, with well-wishers sending gifts and messages of love. Despite their home being destroyed, the Labbans returned to the kibbutz in August 2025, determined to rebuild their lives. Aimee Labban said that the experience has left her and her husband with PTSD, but they are determined to stay in the kibbutz and raise their son there.
Kai, now three years old, has become a symbol of resilience and hope for many people. His parents are grateful for the support they received and are focused on rebuilding their lives and creating a safe and happy environment for their son. The Labbans' story is a testament to the human spirit's ability to persevere in the face of adversity and to the power of hope and resilience.
