What happened
Nathan Stobbart, a British man, was declared missing in action by his Russian military unit in December 2025. His family had no knowledge of his military service, as he had kept it a secret. Stobbart's mother, Valerie, received a text message from her daughter-in-law, Ksenia, informing her that Nathan had vanished while fighting in Ukraine.
According to Valerie, Nathan was forced to join the Russian army to avoid deportation from the country. He had moved to Russia in 2024 to start a new life with Ksenia and their newborn baby. The family had been living a normal life, but Nathan's decision to join the army was made after the Russian authorities warned him that he would not be granted a visa to remain in the country unless he signed up for military service.
Valerie has been trying to find her son, but her efforts have been met with limited success. She has contacted the UK government and several charities, but they have been unable to provide any concrete information about Nathan's whereabouts. The Russian authorities have also been uncooperative, citing that all information about Nathan's case is classified.
Valerie believes that her son is still alive and is holding onto the hope that he may be captured and identified. She has been watching official body exchanges between Russia and Ukraine, but so far, there has been no news about Nathan.
