What happened

Canada has extended travel and immigration restrictions related to the Ebola outbreak until November 27. The restrictions, which were set to expire on September 28, affect residents of Uganda, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. These individuals are not permitted to travel to Canada, and their immigration documentation remains suspended.

International travelers who have been in the Democratic Republic of Congo in the past 21 days are restricted from entering Canada. Those who have visited South Sudan and Uganda are required to isolate for 21 days. Canadian citizens and permanent residents returning from these countries must also undergo a 21-day quarantine.

The World Health Organization has reported nearly 8,000 confirmed cases and over 3,700 deaths in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The outbreak is considered the fastest-growing in history, with a fatality rate of 48 percent. The Public Health Agency of Canada has confirmed that there are no domestic cases of the disease.
