Canada has issued a travel advisory warning its citizens to avoid all non-essential travel to Saudi Arabia and all travel to the King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.
What happened
Deadly Houthi strikes against the international airport in Riyadh have prompted the advisory. A missile attack on the airport's passenger terminal killed 12 people and injured hundreds on Saturday, and another projectile hit the terminal on Sunday.
Canada's ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Jean-Philippe Linteau, has advised Canadians in Riyadh to exercise caution and to contact authorities if they encounter military debris. He also warned against posting about such encounters on social media.
Prime Minister Mark Carney has condemned the violence, calling the Houthi attacks on civilian infrastructure 'abhorrent' and unjustified. He expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the attack.
The Canadian embassy in Riyadh remains open and is available to provide consular assistance to Canadians in need.
