Chevron CEO Warns Against Diesel Export Ban

Chevron CEO Warns Against Diesel Export Ban
New York Post

Chevron CEO Mike Wirth warns against diesel export ban, saying it could worsen the global energy crisis. The US has been a reliable supplier, and creating uncertainty would be unwise.

What happened

Chevron CEO Mike Wirth has warned against imposing a ban on diesel exports from the US, stating it would be unwise and could worsen the global energy crisis. Wirth's comments came after President Trump recently ruled out such a ban, following European countries' agreement to release fuel from their reserves.

According to Wirth, export bans can remove supply from the global market, potentially making the situation worse. He emphasized the US has been a reliable supplier to the world and that creating uncertainty among allies and partners would be unwise.

President Trump had previously considered a ban on diesel exports to lower prices ahead of the midterm elections. However, experts warned that such a ban could have short-lived relief, with producers potentially losing money and moving their refineries elsewhere.

The US Strategic Petroleum Reserve is currently at its lowest level since the 1980s, with roughly 283 million barrels, making the system more vulnerable to disruption. Wirth also noted that Venezuela will play a key role in Chevron's long-term strategy, with plans to more than double production in the country over the next five years.
