Chery, China's largest automotive exporter, is looking to partner with US automakers to gain access to the North American market. The company's Vice President, Charlie Zhang, stated that they are open to different options, including a potential partnership with American automakers.
Chery has already achieved significant sales and profits in Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. However, the Chinese automotive industry is facing challenges due to a sluggish economy, production overcapacity, and low domestic demand, forcing companies to expand overseas for higher profits.
Analysts warn that despite strict US restrictions, Chinese automakers can still find ways to enter the US market. One possible approach is to integrate into the US industrial supply chain through technical and capital partnerships, component supply, and local production led by American companies.
Chery aims to debut in the Canadian market in early 2027 and is confident that it can find a way to target the US market without relying on Chinese hardware or software. The company is seeking to leverage its capital and technical expertise to establish a foothold in the US market.
The US domestic automotive industry is opposed to Chinese automakers' attempts to enter the US market, and the US government has continued to pressure Mexico and Canada to prevent Chinese-made components from entering the US.
