A FlyDubai co-pilot allegedly planned to crash a jet into Ben Gurion Airport in Israel. The co-pilot attacked the captain, but passengers intervened, and the plane was diverted to Saudi Arabia.

What happened

A FlyDubai co-pilot, Hamam al-Hammami, allegedly planned to crash a jet into Ben Gurion Airport in Israel, according to reports from the terrorism investigation. Al-Hammami reportedly told investigators that he intended to continue the flight as normal, obtain the necessary clearances, and then crash the aircraft into a building or another plane at the airport.

The incident occurred on FlyDubai Flight FZ1073, which was traveling from Dubai to Tel Aviv. The co-pilot allegedly attacked the captain with a crash axe and attempted to take control of the aircraft. However, passengers and others on board intervened, and the plane was diverted to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, where it landed safely.

Investigations by Saudi and Emirati authorities have revealed that al-Hammami planned the attack before he was hired by FlyDubai. The UAE Attorney General, Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, stated that the co-pilot attempted to carry out a terrorist act and that the investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances and motives behind the attack.
