Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš announced that his country would deploy two mechanised brigades to defend the Baltic states in the event of a Russian attack.

What happened

According to Babiš, the deployment would be made under Article 5, which requires NATO member states to come to the aid of another member state under attack. Babiš stated that his government is preparing for such a scenario, despite previously halting military aid to Ukraine and facing criticism for his stance on sending Czech soldiers to fight for allies.

Babiš emphasized that his government is actively addressing the potential threat, but does not see a need to share classified information. His comments come amid repeated warnings from European leaders and security services about a potential Russian attack, although Baltic leaders have downplayed the likelihood of military action.
