Data centers bring jobs and investment to local communities, with some developers offering to build community centers and football fields, according to Washington Examiner columnist Salena Zito.

What happened

Washington Examiner columnist Salena Zito recently discussed the benefits of data centers for local communities. According to Zito, data centers are significant job creators and can have a positive impact on the areas where they are located. Some data center developers are even offering to build community facilities such as football fields and community centers.

Zito noted that certain states, including Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Virginia, are well-suited for data power centers due to their abundance of open space. She also highlighted the existing infrastructure in these areas, such as electric grids built for high-voltage connections, which can be utilized by data centers.

Zito cited examples of communities in the Appalachian Rust Belt, such as Beaver County's Aligned Data Centers, where data centers have been well-received. She stated that these communities see the potential for data centers to bring wealth and tax advantages, allowing multiple generations of families to stay and build careers.

Zito also discussed the potential for data centers to contribute to reducing the national debt, which currently stands at $40 trillion. She emphasized that data centers rely on national highways and the national grid, and could play a crucial role in addressing this issue.
