A missile strike on a security camp in Yemen's Shabwa province has resulted in significant casualties, with local authorities reporting 73 deaths and many injuries.
What happened
Three ballistic missiles struck the al-Alam camp, which was being used as a training center for security personnel. The attack is attributed to the Houthi group, who claimed to have targeted Saudi enemy concentrations.
The camp, located near Ataq city, was hit on Monday, causing widespread destruction and loss of life. Hospitals in the area were overwhelmed, and many of the wounded were transferred to neighboring provinces for medical attention.
The death toll was initially reported as 53, but was later revised to 73, with 14 individuals still reported missing. The attack is considered one of the deadliest in recent months, amidst an escalation of the conflict in Yemen.
The Houthi group's military spokesman claimed the attack was aimed at Saudi forces, while Yemen's Information Minister described it as a war crime, stating that the internal security forces training center was not a military target.
