Delta Air Lines delays nonstop flight service to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, after Houthi attacks on King Khalid International Airport kill over a dozen people and injure hundreds.

What happened

Delta Air Lines has delayed its planned nonstop flight service between Atlanta and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, due to recent attacks on King Khalid International Airport. The Iran-backed Houthis launched missiles and drones at the airport over the weekend, resulting in over a dozen deaths and hundreds of injuries.

The attacks occurred on Saturday and Sunday, with the Saturday attack being the deadliest, killing 12 people and injuring over 300 others. An American citizen was among the dead, prompting a statement from Secretary of State Marco Rubio in support of Saudi Arabia.

President Donald Trump is considering joining the Saudi conflict against the Houthis and plans to speak with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman before making a decision. The Houthi-led attacks came amid the ongoing Iran war, which has yet to be resolved.

King Khalid International Airport remains temporarily closed for the rest of the week, with over 2,000 flights canceled or disrupted due to the attacks. Saudi officials are investigating how the nation's air defense system failed to intercept the missiles and drones during the attacks.
