El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele has denied that human remains handed over to his military teams in Haiti belong to four missing Salvadoran nationals.
What happened
The four missing Salvadorans are members of a gang suppression force and were reported missing after coming under attack by gangs on October 18. President Bukele clarified that they are aviation technicians, not combat troops.
A non-governmental organization handed over the remains of a child, a man of greater height than the missing technicians, and another person wearing a different uniform. Identification cards and military uniforms from other countries were also found among the remains.
President Bukele stated that the bodies do not belong to the missing Salvadorans, contradicting the organization's claim. El Salvador had deployed special forces troops to Haiti to help rescue the missing technicians.
