What happened
Elon Musk has been appointed to lead a study at the Pentagon, focusing on the future of warfare. The initiative, called Project Meridian, will utilize expertise from outside the military to forecast creative solutions for future conflicts.
Musk will be joined by Anduril Industries founder Palmer Luckey and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich in leading the study. According to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, their work will focus on developing and fielding weapons and systems for future generations.
Musk has previously expressed his views on the future of war, stating that drones and hypersonic missiles will dominate future conflicts. He has also previously worked with the Trump administration, spearheading the Department of Government Efficiency initiative before leaving the White House.
Recently, Musk and other top tech executives met with President Donald Trump at the White House to discuss artificial intelligence. Trump later signed an executive order directing federal agencies to use the terms Super Intelligence and SI instead of Artificial Intelligence and AI.
