Estonia's Foreign Ministry Secretary General, Jonatan Vseviov, has urged Europe to take a more active role in supporting Ukraine, as the US has been criticized for its stance on the issue.
What happened
Vseviov stated that the situation in Ukraine is difficult, with people's hope for an end to the war under constant attack. He noted that the longer the war continues, the harder it becomes for both sides, as well as for those supporting them. Vseviov also mentioned that the news from the US offers little additional hope, and therefore, Europeans must take matters into their own hands to support Ukraine.
Vseviov emphasized that the more important question is whether the US can be counted on to use its power to support the victim against the aggressor, and it seems the answer is no. He added that Europe must fill the gaps left by the US in supporting Ukraine.
The secretary general also discussed the importance of preventing the situation from worsening and ensuring Ukrainians have hope and a future. He highlighted the need to support Ukraine in rejecting any deals that resemble the Munich or Yalta agreements, and to maintain high standards for Ukraine in the European Union's enlargement process.
