Estonian diplomat Jüri Luik has expressed skepticism about the possibility of a meeting between the leaders of the United States, Russia, and China resulting in a new world order.
What happened
Luik stated that while there are high expectations for a potential meeting between US President Trump, Russian President Putin, and Chinese President Xi, the three countries lack the power to establish a new world order. He attributed this to their differing interests and priorities, particularly with regards to issues like nuclear nonproliferation and the Ukraine conflict.
Luik noted that the US has been seeking to discuss nuclear arms control with China, but China has been hesitant due to its currently smaller nuclear arsenal. He also mentioned that the US is considering presenting Ukraine with a new peace plan, but the details of the plan are not yet clear.
Luik emphasized the importance of security guarantees from European countries and the US for Ukraine, stating that such guarantees would be crucial in preventing future conflicts. He estimated that there are four or five different agreements being considered, but these discussions are currently taking place within a narrow circle of diplomats.
