Estonia's public broadcaster ERR has decided not to broadcast the opening and closing ceremonies of the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar.
What happened
The International Olympic Committee has allowed athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in the games under their national flags, despite initially planning for them to compete as neutral athletes.
ERR's sports department head, Rivo Saarna, expressed regret over the decision, stating that it normalizes Russia's status as an ordinary member of the international community amidst its ongoing war against Ukraine.
As a result, ERR has chosen not to broadcast the ceremonies live, citing the principles of Olympism, which include peaceful development, friendship, respect, and solidarity.
The Youth Olympic Games are scheduled to take place from October 31 to November 13, with Estonia sending 12 athletes to participate.
