Families of Young Victims Still Seek Justice Three Years After Israel-Gaza Attacks
CBS News

Families of young victims of the Israel-Gaza attacks three years ago still seek justice, with relatives of Hind Rajab in Gaza and Shiri Bibas and her children in Israel sharing their ongoing pain and grief with CBS News.

What happened

Three years have passed since the October 7 attacks in Israel and Gaza, but the pain still lingers for families of the youngest victims. The assault by Hamas resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 people and the abduction of 251 others. Among those killed were Shiri Bibas and her children, Ariel and Kfir, who were taken from their home in Kibbutz Nir Oz. Their bodies were never recovered, and their family is still seeking justice.

In Gaza, the family of 5-year-old Hind Rajab is also still grieving. Hind was killed in January 2024 when the car she was in came under Israeli fire in Gaza City. Her desperate pleas for help were heard around the world, and her body was found 12 days later. Her grandmother remembers her as a little girl who loved life and had big dreams, including becoming a doctor.

The families of the victims are still seeking answers and justice. Ofri Bibas Levy, the sister of Yarden Bibas, who was abducted and later released, expressed her anger and desire for revenge. She also hopes for a better future and believes that conflicts can be solved. Hind's grandmother is not hopeful that justice will be served, given the Israeli military's track record.

The Israeli military has opened a criminal investigation into Hind's killing, but her family remains skeptical. The pain and trauma caused by the attacks and the war that followed have not dulled, and the families of the victims continue to live with the loss and uncertainty.
