What happened

Finland has received its first F-35 combat aircraft, marking a significant milestone in the country's defense capabilities. The arrival ceremony was held in Rovaniemi, where Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen highlighted the importance of these next-generation fighters for Finland's defense and their wider positive effects.

According to Minister Häkkänen, the F-35 program will not only improve Finland's defense system but also create jobs and strengthen the country's industrial capabilities. Over 30 Finnish companies are already involved in the program, which is expected to generate around 5,000 person-years of employment. Additionally, Finnish companies will manufacture front fuselages for other users and assemble and maintain F-35 engines.

The F-35 program is valued at over EUR 10 billion and is expected to enhance deterrence and defense for both Finland and NATO. The program is also seen as a significant contribution to the security of the region, with all Nordic countries under NATO's Joint Force Command Norfolk and over 700 fifth-generation fighters across Europe.
