Finland's participation in UNIFIL will end with the mandate's expiration. The President and Ministerial Committee discussed Ukraine, UNIFIL, ICC sanctions, and AI in foreign policy.

The President of Finland and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy recently convened to discuss several key international issues.

What happened

The committee addressed the current situation in Ukraine, as well as the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which will see its mandate expire by the end of the year.

As a result, Finland will be ending its long-term participation in the UNIFIL operation, which it has been a part of since 1982. The committee also discussed the sanctions imposed by the United States on the International Criminal Court (ICC).

In addition to these topics, the President and the Ministerial Committee received a briefing on the role of artificial intelligence in foreign policy, exploring its implications and potential applications.
