Flash floods in central Nepal have swept away buildings and bridges, with 49 people rescued and five still missing, two months after catastrophic floods hit the country.

What happened

A flash flood in central Nepal has caused significant damage, sweeping away several buildings and bridges along the Budhi Gandaki River. The flood is believed to have been triggered by a landslide upstream in the Gorkha district.

According to reports, four bridges and nearly two dozen houses have been destroyed, and a camp at a hydropower project along the river has also been affected. The Nepalese army has rescued 49 people from the flood-affected areas, but five individuals are still missing.

This incident occurs just two months after Nepal experienced catastrophic floods and landslides that resulted in thousands of deaths and missing persons, as well as widespread destruction of homes and critical energy infrastructure.
