What happened
A FlyDubai co-pilot attempted to crash a plane flying from Dubai to Israel, but was subdued by passengers and other crew members. The incident occurred when the co-pilot allegedly stabbed the flight captain and tried to crash the aircraft as it approached Israel.
The captain managed to fight off the co-pilot long enough to unlock the cockpit door, allowing passengers to overpower the co-pilot. Two off-duty pilots on the flight then took control of the aircraft and made an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.
There were 174 people on board, and no passengers were seriously injured. The pilot sustained stab wounds, and two crew members were hospitalized with unspecified injuries. The co-pilot was taken into custody and is being questioned by authorities.
The co-pilot's motive for the attack is still unknown, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has suggested it may have been a suicide attempt or an attempted jihadist terror attack. The co-pilot has been identified as an Omani citizen, and Israeli authorities believe he may have undergone Islamist radical indoctrination.
The co-pilot has been transferred to the United Arab Emirates for further questioning. Authorities are investigating the possibility that the incident was an attempted Sept. 11-style terror attack, and are also probing whether the attacker was working alone.
