What happened
A Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv, Israel, experienced a violent incident when the co-pilot stabbed the captain, causing the plane to nosedive. The plane reportedly plummeted roughly 17,000 feet in one minute during the physical altercation in the cockpit.
Passenger Yaniv Hayun, who assisted cabin crew members in retaking control of the plane, was able to help fight off the attacker. Hayun credited a TV show, Air Disasters, for teaching him how to pull the jet out of a nosedive.
Israel's Defense Minister described the event as an “attempted jihadist terrorist attack.” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the co-pilot intended to crash the plane, which had 174 people on board.
President Trump responded to the incident, commending Hayun for his actions and joking that he must have known what to do from watching Air Disasters. Trump also spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu about the event, suggesting that the co-pilot may have been a terrorist or mentally unstable.
