What happened
A Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia after a violent incident occurred in the cockpit. The flight, carrying over 170 passengers, mostly Israeli, was interrupted when the co-pilot, an Omani national, stabbed the captain, an Indian pilot. Passengers intervened, breaking down the cockpit door and subduing the co-pilot, who allegedly attempted to crash the plane in a 9/11-style attack.
Two off-duty pilots on board helped land the plane safely. Veteran pilot Captain Byron Bailey shared his insights on the incident with Sky News Australia, suggesting the motive behind the attempted hijacking was rooted in the co-pilot's religious beliefs. According to Captain Bailey, the attack was likely an act of religious devotion, driven by the perpetrator's desire to kill Jews and martyr himself.
The Sky News Australia reporter appeared uncomfortable discussing the motive and instead shifted the conversation to the technical aspects of the incident. Captain Bailey's comments highlighted the religious tensions underlying the attack, which he believes are often ignored in discussions about antisemitism.
