Scientists have discovered that the human body has five natural defense systems that can effectively ward off diseases. However, these systems require nourishment from healthy foods to function properly. Dr. William Li, author of the book Eat to Beat Disease, has identified 200 foods that can help activate the body's health defenses.
According to Dr. Li, foods such as pomegranate, black raspberries, and tomatoes can enhance angiogenesis, a health defense system that keeps cancers small. Vitamin K-2, found in cheeses like Gouda and Edam, is also key to controlling angiogenesis. Fermented foods like kimchi and yogurt, as well as fiber-rich foods like broccoli, can help balance the microbiome, leading to good physical and mental health.
Other foods, such as kiwifruit, spinach, and lentils, can repair and strengthen DNA, while dark chocolate can fuel stem cells. Foods like mushrooms, garlic, and extra virgin olive oil can stimulate the immune system, providing protection against pathogens. Dr. Li emphasizes that by incorporating these foods into our diet, we can prevent diseases and improve our overall health.
