The Epoch Times

Former world chess champion Garry Kasparov has been warned of a Russian plot to kill him. He vows to continue speaking out against the Kremlin despite the threat.

What happened

Former world chess champion Garry Kasparov has been warned by US and Lithuanian security services that his life is in danger due to a Russian plot. The warning comes after the US Department of Justice charged five people with plotting to assassinate two opposition figures on behalf of Russian intelligence.

Kasparov, a vocal critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, stated that he will not hide or stop speaking out against the Kremlin, despite the threat to his life. He believes that his family and he will not be truly safe as long as Putin remains in power in Russia.

The US Department of Justice referred to the targets of the alleged plot as Victim-1, living in the US, and Victim-2, living in Lithuania. Kasparov identified the other person warned by security services as Ivan Tyutrin, co-founder of the Free Russia Forum, based in Lithuania.

The Kremlin has denied any involvement in the alleged plot, citing a lack of credible evidence. Kasparov has vowed to continue speaking out against the Russian government, saying that the best defense is a good offense.
