Former FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino urges Americans to prepare for a potential crisis by stockpiling supplies, including food, water, and emergency equipment, citing government warnings in the UK and Europe.

What happened

Former FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino has urged Americans to prepare for a potential crisis by stockpiling supplies, including food, water, and emergency equipment. This warning comes after governments in the UK and Europe have encouraged households to keep essential items available for emergencies.

Bongino, who left the FBI in January, stated that having a preparedness plan and at least three days of food and power ready is crucial. He recommended that people have an emergency radio, batteries, emergency food, rain collection, and water filtration systems.

The UK's updated guidance recommends that households have enough supplies for three days to help families cope with severe weather, cyberattacks, or other disruptions to essential services. Bongino emphasized that preparing in advance can reduce anxiety and prevent families from finding themselves without essentials when a crisis strikes.

Other countries, such as Sweden, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, and France, have also issued public warnings for citizens to begin storing emergency food and water in case of a crisis. The Pentagon has a plan, known as FORTRESS, to keep US forces fighting and military bases stocked for at least 90 days, even if civilian infrastructure fails.

Bongino's warning came after details of the FORTRESS plan were revealed, and he emphasized that the public needs to do the same to prepare for a potential crisis. He stated that "panic kills" and that the best way to avoid disaster is to be prepared for the worst-case scenario.
