What happened
The US War Secretary has announced that the execution of Nidal Hasan, the perpetrator of the 2009 Fort Hood terrorist attack, will be public and mirror the circumstances of his deadly assault. Hasan's execution by firing squad is scheduled for December 3 at Fort Hood, on a Thursday at 1 p.m. local time, matching the day and time of the attack.
According to the War Secretary, the execution will be carried out by a firing squad of soldiers, a method that has not been used since World War II. The secretary stated that the goal is to ensure people understand the serious consequences of Hasan's actions, which killed 13 people and wounded over 30 others.
Hasan, a former Army Major, opened fire at Fort Hood in 2009 while yelling a radical Islamist phrase. He was sentenced to death in 2013. The War Secretary made it clear that he is not interested in considering any special requests from Hasan, saying that the focus is on carrying out the execution as scheduled.
