French authorities have taken measures to curb protests and unrest in several cities, including Paris, Lyon, and Toulon.
What happened
Protests planned in these cities have been banned, and night-time curfews have been imposed in many areas. The bans and curfews are aimed at preventing further violence and vandalism, which have been widespread in recent days.
The French government has also announced plans to release 10 million barrels of diesel at a significantly lower price than market value, starting from November 1, in an effort to address one of the key concerns driving the protests.
Meanwhile, the CGT union has called for strikes on November 5, after a meeting with Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu failed to address their concerns over the rising cost of living.
