Riots have been ongoing in France for over a month, with clashes between police and rioters causing significant damage across the country.
What happened
The city hall in Limoges, a building that stood for nearly a century and a half and survived both World Wars, was destroyed after rioters threw explosives into it. The mayor of Limoges accused organized far-left militants of preparing the assault in advance, describing rioters arriving with mortars and a battering ram.
The rioters bore symbols of modern barbarism, including the black anarchist emblem flanked by Palestinian flags. The destruction has been likened to an act of war, with the Red-Green alliance of radical left and Islamist groups exploiting fractures in the French state to inflict maximal damage.
The riots in France have drawn comparisons to the riots that followed George Floyd's death in the US, which were also led by a Red-Green coalition and resulted in significant destruction and the erosion of American history.
