What happened
Democrat Abdul El-Sayed, a Michigan Senate candidate, had a heated argument with Fox News host Martha MacCallum over the Iran War. The discussion took place on MacCallum's show, where El-Sayed condemned recent terrorist attacks as 'awful and terrible'. MacCallum challenged El-Sayed's views on the war, quoting him as saying that the US should be 'curious' about the causes of terrorism. El-Sayed argued that the US has been on the wrong side of its own policies and that war is a system of violence.
El-Sayed and MacCallum disagreed on the threat posed by Iran, with El-Sayed arguing that the nuclear threat had been contained by Barack Obama's Iran deal. MacCallum countered that Iran had been breaking the deal and had created a huge threat to the region. The argument continued, with El-Sayed asking why gas prices were high if the situation in the Strait of Hormuz was improving. MacCallum accused El-Sayed of filibustering, and El-Sayed argued that MacCallum was a 'fan' of the war in Iran.
Following the interview, Trump reacted at a rally in Nebraska, calling El-Sayed 'a total communist'. El-Sayed is currently leading in the polls over Republican Mike Rogers in a key state that Democrats must win to flip the Senate blue.
