A recent terrorist attack near the city of Hebron has resulted in the critical wounding of 2 Israelis, with 3 others also injured. The attack was carried out by 2 terrorists who were subsequently killed by IDF soldiers.
What happened
The attack occurred at a checkpoint at Judea Junction, where the 2 terrorists opened fire on IDF troops. The gun battle lasted for approximately 20 minutes, during which time the terrorists were killed. A large quantity of ammunition was found in the suspects' vehicle, suggesting that a larger attack had been planned.
According to the IDF, the terrorists had intended to reach nearby Route 35, a road used by many Israeli civilians, in order to carry out a mass-casualty terror attack. The IDF estimates that their rapid response prevented an even more serious attack and further harm to civilians and security forces.
Following the incident, the IDF launched counterterrorism operations in the Hebron area, which has been placed under a cordon. The military has also imposed a siege on Hebron and the neighboring town of Halhul.
