Iran-backed Houthis attacked Saudi Arabian airports, killing at least 14 and injuring over 300, amid warnings of a wider Middle East war and 'cross-domain escalation' by Iran and its proxies.

The Iran-backed Houthi group has claimed responsibility for a series of attacks on Saudi Arabian airports, resulting in the deaths of at least 14 people and injuring over 300 others.

What happened

The attacks, which occurred on Sunday, targeted King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and an airport in Dammam, in the kingdom's Eastern Province. The Houthi group warned airlines, airport workers, and travelers to avoid Saudi airports, while Saudi Arabia vowed to retaliate for the deadly attacks.

American and Pakistani nationals were among those killed in the attacks. The US Secretary of State condemned the attack and called for an immediate end to the violence. President Donald Trump left open the possibility of US involvement in Saudi Arabia's military campaign against the Houthis.

Experts warn that the attacks are part of a broader military escalation in the region, with the Houthis expanding their territorial control in Yemen. The attacks have also renewed scrutiny of reports that Russia has provided intelligence and technical assistance to the Houthis.
