What happened

A Category 2 hurricane named Isaias made landfall along the Gulf Coast, resulting in the deaths of four people, with two fatalities reported in Alabama and two in Florida. The hurricane brought winds of over 110 miles per hour, causing widespread destruction and leaving nearly 1 million people without power. Cleanup efforts are currently underway, with officials warning of potential flooding and hazards such as downed power lines.

Residents in the affected areas described the storm as sounding like a freight train, with one woman, Jayme Mitich, losing her roof to what she believed was a tornado. Mitich recounted the terrifying experience, saying the sound was extremely loud and unlike anything normal.

Operation Blessing's Global Disaster Response team has established a base of operations in Pensacola, providing aid to those affected by the hurricane. The team has served over 700 meals and distributed essential items such as Home Depot Disaster Buckets and Emergency Meal Kits. Local residents have expressed gratitude for the community's support, with one resident, Karen Williams, saying that the community has come together to help each other.

The Florida Panhandle and southern Alabama are still experiencing power outages, with around 170,000 customers without electricity. Governor Ron DeSantis warned of potential hazards and flooding in the coming days, urging residents to remain cautious.
