Hurricane Isaias has caused significant damage and power outages in Florida and Alabama, with at least four deaths reported. The storm has left nearly 396,000 customers without power as it moves north, threatening heavy rain in the Appalachians and mid-Atlantic region.

What happened

The hurricane came ashore as a Category 2 hurricane near Destin, Florida, causing widespread damage and power outages. Heavy rainfall is expected to be the primary hazard as the storm moves north, with parts of the southeastern US and mid-Atlantic potentially seeing scattered power outages and downed trees and power lines.

At least four deaths have been linked to the storm, including two people killed when trees fell onto homes in Florida and Alabama. Life-threatening surf and rip current conditions are expected to continue along the Gulf and southeastern Atlantic coasts.

The storm has also caused significant damage to buildings and infrastructure, with the roof being blown off a hotel in Pensacola and a boathouse being flattened in Destin. President Donald Trump has approved an emergency declaration for Georgia, allowing for federal aid.
