What happened
Hurricane Isaias has weakened into a post-tropical cyclone after making landfall in Florida, resulting in at least two fatalities and leaving hundreds of thousands without power. The storm initially made landfall as a Category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph, but its winds weakened sharply as it moved north through the Florida Panhandle and into Alabama.
The storm caused widespread damage, including toppled trees and power lines, damaged buildings, and hazardous roads. At least two people were killed when trees fell on their homes, one in Florida and another in Alabama. Power outages affected roughly 800,000 to over 900,000 customers across Florida, Alabama, and Georgia.
Recovery efforts have begun, with crews working to restore electricity and assess damage. However, forecasters warn that heavy rainfall and flash flooding remain concerns as the system moves inland. The storm's remnants brought rain across Alabama and parts of Georgia, with potential flooding extending into the Southeast and southern Appalachians.
