Hurricane Trudy has brought heavy rain and powerful winds to parts of Mexico's Pacific coast, impacting western and southwestern states.
What happened
The storm had strengthened into a major Category 3 hurricane before weakening, with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph as of the latest update. Trudy was located about 130 miles west-southwest of Cabo Corrientes, Mexico, and moving northwest at 7 mph.
The National Hurricane Center had urged people in coastal regions to prepare for potentially life-threatening flooding and mudslides. The Mexican Navy also warned mariners and coastal residents to exercise extreme caution due to high waves and heavy rain.
Trudy is expected to bring 4 to 8 inches of rain, with isolated totals of around 12 inches along the coast. The storm's center is expected to turn toward the west-northwest, taking it away from Mexico's coast and south of the Baja California Peninsula.
