Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird has filed a lawsuit against ADI Global Distribution, a video surveillance company, for allegedly concealing that its security cameras were manufactured in China by companies with ties to the Chinese military.
The lawsuit claims that ADI sold cameras made by Hikvision and Dahua, two companies on a U.S. list of foreign entities posing national security risks, without informing consumers about the potential security concerns.
A national security expert, Michael Lucci, has warned that these cameras could provide a backdoor for China to access sensitive information, as Chinese law requires companies to provide data to the government upon request.
The lawsuit is seeking relief for Iowa consumers and an end to what the attorney general's office describes as deceptive representations concerning the security of consumers' sensitive information.
This is the second lawsuit filed by Bird against China-aligned entities this week, amid growing concerns over the security risks posed by Chinese-made surveillance equipment.
