Iran and Russia Strengthen Ties Amid Ongoing Middle East Conflict
CBS News

Iran's foreign minister says ties with Russia are stronger than ever, contradicting President Trump's claim that Moscow is not helping Iran in the war. The statement comes after a visit by Russia's foreign minister to Tehran.

What happened

Iran's foreign minister has stated that the country's ties with Russia have never been closer, following a visit by Russia's foreign minister to Tehran. This statement contradicts President Trump's claim that Moscow is not providing significant support to Iran in the ongoing war.

Russia's foreign minister, during his visit to Tehran, described US and Israeli attacks on Iran as illegal. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has suggested the possibility of new joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran, stating that they have a job to finish.

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth met with Netanyahu in Israel, and President Trump has said that the US is doing very well with Iran and is deciding how to win the war. Iran, however, has taken a hard-line stance on negotiations, stating that it will not return to talks unless the US drops its sanctions, threats, and pressure campaign.

The conflict has also affected the Strait of Hormuz, with Iran's Revolutionary Guards reporting that three tankers have been halted by naval mines while attempting to travel through the strait. The US has issued security warnings to Americans in the Middle East, citing the risk of attacks by Iran-backed Houthi militants.
