Iranian state media has claimed that Parliament Speaker Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf met with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, who has not been seen in public since the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in February.
What happened
According to the Islamic Republic News Agency, Ghalibaf and Khamenei discussed the latest developments in military, economic, and psychological warfare, as well as the importance of national power and social cohesion. Khamenei allegedly emphasized the need for lawmakers to preserve unity and address the country's economic challenges.
The report comes amid speculation about Khamenei's condition and whereabouts, with some officials claiming to have met with him and others expressing skepticism. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has suggested that Khamenei may still be alive, but that his regime poses a threat to regional security.
Ghalibaf has threatened the United States with dire consequences for any further action against Iran, using imagery from the movie The Matrix to warn of potential retaliation.
