What happened
Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, stated that Iran is ready to make peace with the US and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, but the decision is now up to the US. This comes after Iranian and US negotiators met for over three hours in sideline talks during the United Nations General Assembly meeting.
Araghchi claimed that Iran has conveyed a concrete seven-day plan to the US through Qatar, which would allow for the reopening of the strait and the restoration of normal maritime passage if the necessary conditions are met.
However, according to a recent report, President Donald Trump has rejected the Iran ceasefire and plans to resume strikes after the midterm elections. The ceasefire proposal had involved a reprieve from the US blockade on Iranian ports in exchange for Iran reopening the strait and resuming talks over its nuclear program.
Trump had previously stated that he has a big decision to make on how to proceed with the war in Iran, and has predicted that the war will end immediately after the election because Iran cannot hold out any longer.
