Iran has increased attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, with four tankers hit since Friday, making October the worst period for shipping since the war began.

Iran has increased its attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, with a significant surge in recent days.

What happened

Four tankers have been attacked since Friday, with two ships struck by projectiles and two supertankers reportedly hitting mines.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy announced on Saturday that the Strait of Hormuz was 'closed', according to the official Iranian news agency IRNA.

However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that his country had sent a plan to the US government to reopen the strait within seven days, provided certain conditions are met.

The recent attacks have resulted in October being the worst period for shipping in the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the war.

The increased tensions in the region have also affected fuel prices, with the average price of regular gasoline in the US at $4.31 per gallon and diesel at $6.33 per gallon.
