A high-ranking female commander in Iran's Basij militia was assassinated outside her home in southeastern Iran.
What happened
Afsaneh Aghila, the commander of a Basij center in Mehrestan County, Sistan and Baluchestan, was shot dead at her front door, according to local Iranian media reports.
This incident marks the second assassination of a female official in the region within a week, following the killing of Major Nosrat Eftekhari, deputy police chief of Sistan and Baluchestan, who died after a roadside bomb detonated.
The Iranian government has attributed the assassinations to terrorists affiliated with the US and Zionist Regime, although these claims have not been independently verified.
