Israeli diplomatic missions and Jewish communities worldwide are on high alert due to potential security risks ahead of the third anniversary of the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks. According to Israel's Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism, 262 pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel events are scheduled across 37 countries.
The ministry has identified 87 of these events as posing a medium or high level of risk, with 45 scheduled to take place near Israeli diplomatic facilities or other properties associated with Israel. The countries with the largest number of planned events are the United States, Spain, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Italy.
Travel security experts have advised Israeli travelers to remain vigilant, particularly in Spain and France, where recent riots and demonstrations could make it difficult to distinguish between scheduled events and the general chaotic situation in cities. The experts have also recommended avoiding travel to Spain unless absolutely necessary.
The Ministry of Diaspora Affairs has warned that the events are being concentrated around the October 7 anniversary to maximize media coverage and participation. The ministry's report has flagged high-risk events in several cities, including Barcelona, Paris, Istanbul, and London.
