The Israeli government has condemned the UK Green Party for passing a resolution that labels Zionism as a form of racism and calls for the replacement of Israel with a Palestinian state. The resolution was passed by a majority of 1,022 to 813, with several senior figures opposing the move.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry criticized the resolution, stating that it gives legitimacy to terrorism and has adopted the ideology of Hamas. The ministry also claimed that the resolution goes beyond the boundaries of legitimate political debate and is a stain on the history of the United Kingdom.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog drew attention to the statement's similarity to the infamous UN Resolution 3379, which determined that Zionism is a form of racism and racial discrimination. Herzog asserted that Zionism is the national liberation movement of the Jewish people and the foundation of their right to a state and national home in the Land of Israel.
The resolution has also been criticized by other parties, with some noting that it could lead to disciplinary proceedings against individuals who attend synagogues or prayer groups that identify as Zionist.
