What happened
Memorials and protests were held across Israel to mark the third anniversary of a terror attack that killed over 1,200 people and kidnapped 251 more. The commemorations began with a national moment of silence at 6:29 p.m., the same time the attack occurred. Events were held at over 400 sites, including the Nova Music Festival in the Re'im Forest, where over 340 people were killed and 44 abducted.
Protests for government accountability were scattered throughout Caesarea and Jerusalem. The Kumu Movement and the October Council, civil society organizations centered around bereaved families of Oct. 7 survivors, facilitated most events. The groups have continually demanded a state commission inquiry into the attack, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has yet to begin any sort of inquiry.
A mother of a freed hostage, Einav Zangauker, shared a personal account of her experience on social media, calling on others to share their own stories from the day of the attack. She emphasized that the anniversary is not just a story of the affected families, but a story of the entire country.
