Israel has ordered its military to prepare for a full closure of the West Bank following a shooting attack that wounded several Israelis near Hebron.
What happened
A shooting attack occurred at Yehuda Junction, southwest of Hebron, with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reporting that two terrorists were eliminated and searches are ongoing in the area.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to intensify counterterrorism operations ahead of next week's national election, instructing the IDF and security forces to cordon off the city of Hebron and take additional security measures.
The IDF has conducted dozens of counterterrorism operations across the West Bank in recent days, arresting approximately 70 wanted individuals, including those affiliated with Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and seizing dozens of weapons.
The incident comes less than a week before Israelis head to the polls in an election dominated by national security concerns, with Netanyahu campaigning on his wartime leadership and opposition parties arguing for new leadership.
