What happened
CNN Jerusalem Correspondent Jeremy Diamond reported that the deaths of Hamas hostages were linked to Israeli military actions. According to Diamond, more than half of the hostage deaths were connected to Israeli strikes and ground maneuvers. He stated that 11 hostages were killed by Israeli strikes or ground operations, while nearly half were killed by their captors.
Diamond cited the cases of five hostages who died in captivity due to wounds or lack of care, including an 83-year-old journalist and peace activist. He also mentioned the deaths of two young children, aged nine months and four years, who were killed by their captors.
The cause of death for eight hostages remains unconfirmed, including six who were killed in a tunnel following an Israeli strike nearby. The Israeli military's Hostage Task Force worked to keep the hostages alive and secure their release.
