The Yesh Atid party, led by Gadi Eisenkot, announced its support for disqualifying the candidacy of Balad party chairman, Sami Abu Shehadeh, for the 26th Knesset. This comes after the Otzma Yehudit party submitted a formal request to disqualify Abu Shehadeh.
According to Yesh Atid, Abu Shehadeh's statements following the October 7 massacre, in which he referred to the Hamas attack as a significant historical event, crossed the threshold set by the Basic Law: The Knesset, which prohibits support for armed struggle by a terrorist organization against the State of Israel.
The Attorney General, Gali Baharav-Miara, stated that based on the evidentiary infrastructure, it appears that Abu Shehadeh expressed support for the armed struggle of a terrorist organization against the State of Israel, and that the Central Elections Committee should consider the disqualification request with due gravity.
